ARC | Graphic Novel/Manga Review #31 – Bob’s Burgers: Medium Rare

Today’s time for another review on a graphic novel inspired by one of my favourite TV shows ever. It’s Bob’s Burgers: Medium Rare.

Bob’s Burgers is an animated TV show from Fox. It follows the Belchers and their lives in the family restaurant. They’re Bob (the dad), Linda (the mom), Tina (the oldest daughter), Gene (the middle son) and Louise (the youngest).

Each of the family members have their little segment, as it happened in the other Bob’s Burgers title I read (you can read my review here) although they’re not completely the same. They are: Tina’s Erotic Friend Fiction, Louise’s Unsolved Mysteries and Curious Curiosities, Gene’s Rhymey Rhymes That Could One Day Be Songs. Two of the issues in this trade paperback also have some of Bob’s concept art and another segment called Linda’s Attempt To Take A Nice Family Picture In Front Of The Restaurant (And How It Always Goes Wrong).

As you can see, this one relies more on the children and less on the parents. I don’t see a really logical reason for this, since all of the family members seem to have equal screen time during each season. Although, I can’t really complain. Tina’s segments are still my favourites. In this book, they’re all movie related, which references I couldn’t appreciate more. They’re the funniest and most entertaining.

That doesn’t mean that the book itself isn’t awesome in its whole because that’s honestly an understatement. I love reading this as much as I like to see the show. The jokes are still awesome and the characters are still their amazing selves. I cannot avoid to read the lines in their voices, all in my head!

Each story is drawn by a different artist and that is evident. The characters gain different forms as another segment comes along. I don’t find this strange at all, quite the contrary. I’m always curious to see what comes next.

I also love the amount of bonus content the Bob’s Burgers comics have! Each TPB features the covers of every single issue, their variants and what they call pin-up art. From my understanding, that’s a piece where different artists take their style around the characters. It’s so interesting to see them in another way of drawing! The pin-up art is definitely my favourite part of these books.

It’s always a pleasure to read this comics and I’m so glad for Dynamite to make them available on NetGalley! I’ll keep requesting, reading and loving them!
